Île Takamaka is a small coral island in the east of the Salomon Islands, an atoll of numerous islets in the north of the British Indian Ocean Territory. It lies on the east part of the coral rim of the atoll.
The name of the island is not unique in the ocean: there is an islet of the same name (also called 'Île Tattamucca') in the Egmont Islands on the other side of the Great Chagos Bank and also a place in the Seychelles to the west and French Réunion far across the ocean to the south. The name is from the magnificent Takamaka tree of the islands, Calophyllum inophyllum.[1]
