Ballymacelligott is in the north of County Kerry, four miles east of Tralee in the Barony of Trughanacmy.[1]

History

A quarry was first created in Ballymacelligott in 1811 as a source for building materials for construction of a barracks in Tralee.[2]

The local Church of Ireland church, Ballymacelligott Church, was built in 1820,[2][3] The nearby Roman Catholic church, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, was described in 1837 as being a "large slated building".[2][4]

Edenburn House, later used as a hospital, is also in Ballymacelligott.[5]
