Cheddar Gorge

Cheddar Gorge is a deep, steep limestone gorge in the Mendip Hills, near Cheddar in Somerset, and one of the great wonders of the county. The gorge and the village at its foot attract some half a milllion visitors a year.

Within the gorge are the Cheddar show caves, where Britain's oldest complete human skeleton, Cheddar Man, estimated to be nine thousand years old, was found, and where visitors gave on a spectacle of stalactites and stalagmites. (Read more)
