Camperdow is an urbanised village in Northumberland, standing just south of Burradon, with which it is closely linked.[1] Both villages had coal mines.

The village and its mine were named in celebration of the victory at the Battle of Camperdown, a naval battle fought in 1797 off Holland. In the battle Admiral Duncan destroyed the fleet of the Batavian Republic, a puppet state of Revolutionary France, off the Dutch village of Camperduin.
