Wikishire is where you may find the best of Britain and Ireland.

Wikishire is where you are; whether you are on the Shetland islands or the South Shetland Islands, or the places between, Wikishire is a growing guide on all you need to know about the British and Irish lands.

Lossiemouth

Lossiemouth

Lossiemouth is a town in Morayshire. Originally the port belonging to Elgin, it became an important and innovative fishing town. Although there has been over a 1,000 years of settlement in the area, the present day town was formed over the past 250 years and consists of four separate communities that eventually merged into one.

There were villages along the shore here long since (Stotfield, Kinneddar, which disappeared, and Seatown between the river and the canal) Lossiemouth itself was founded at the creation of a new harbour on the River Lossie, the 18th Century; Lossiemouth was built as a planned town on a grid system, and it came to incorporate Stotfield and Seatown, which retain building s older than the town of which they now form a part.
