River Swale

Richmond is a pretty market town on the River Swale in the North Riding of Yorkshire. The town stands on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Richmond's picturesque appearance and historic buildings have made it a popular film and television location.

The town was named after the Norman Conquest when it and the surounding lands were granted by William the Conqueror to a Breton nobleman. It became the centre of a Liberty known as "Richmondshire".(Read more)
