Coats Land is a region of the British Antarctic Territory forming part of the continent of Antactica, from the coast of the Southern Ocean inland. Its coasts are the Caird Coast (named by Shackleton) and the Luitpold Coast (named by Wilhelm Filchner, a Bavarian explorer).
Coats Land is bounded on the east by the Norwegian Antarctic Territory (Queen Maud Land), and to the west by the Weddell Sea. It extends in a general northeast-southwest direction between 20º00´W and 36º00´W. To the south is Queen Elizabeth Land.
The northeast part was discovered from the Scotia by William S Bruce, leader of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition of 1902-04. He gave the name Coats Land for James Coats, Jr, and Major Andrew Coats, the two chief supporters of the expedition.
