Evans Lake is a comparatively deep lake of irregular outline situated in a rock basin amongst densely vegetated low knolls, east of Poa Cove, which indents Maiviken on th north coast of South Georgia.

The lake is named after Dr John Cynan Ellis-Evans (b. 1951), the British Antarctic Survey freshwater biologist from 1975 and Head, Freshwater Biology Section, 1979-1997.
