Linlithgow Loch

Linlithgow Loch is a lake in Linlithgow, in West Lothian, and the only body of water of any size in the county. It is to the north of the town centre, and by its shore is the parkland of Linlithgow Palace.

The loch is three-quarters of a mile long and covers 0.2 square mile.

Fishing and boating

The Forth Area Federation of Anglers has been responsible for the fishery since 1962.

The Scottish Canoe Association's website reports on regattas on the lake.

The Loch is used for water sports by West Lothian Council's outdoor education centre - the Low Port Centre, as well as by local University Sailing Clubs (Edinburgh University - generally sailing Firefly dinghies, and Heriot-Watt University normally sailing Larks).

Conservation

Linlithgow Loch is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest by virtue of its wildfowl population.

Historic Scotland has Countryside Rangers who monitor the wildlife and organise events for the public, amongst them the Big Loch Birdwatch every January.
