Île Anglaise is a long coral island in the north-west of the Salomon Islands, an atoll of numerous islets in the north of the British Indian Ocean Territory. It is where the north-west rim of the atoll rises above the sea in a line, separating the ocean from the lagoon.
Like most of the smaller Chagos Islands, Île Anglaise is named in French, having been first charted by the French before the archipelago passed to British rule during the Napoleonic Wars, notwithstanding that its name means 'English Island'.
