East London is the north-eastern part of the London conurbation, consisting of areas in the counties of Essex and Middlesex. It lies east of the ancient City of London and north of the River Thames. Like London itself, it has no official or generally accepted boundaries; views vary as to how much of Essex and Middlesex lie within it.
