The Rock of Gibraltar is mountain consisting of a monolithic limestone promontory and which forms the body of the British overseas territory of Gibraltar. The Rock stands 1,398 feet high at its highest summit, O'Hara's Battery. It stands between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, commanding the Strait.

The Rock has a most distinctive shape, once described as "a couchant lion threatening Spain".
