The Yarrow Stone is a large, inscribed Dark-Age whinstone gravestone standing alone in a field on the north side of the Yarrow Water, beside the A708 road, half a mile west of the village of Yarrow and seven and a half miles west of Selkirk.
The stone was unknown until about 200 years ago when it was was unearthed by a ploughman. Bones were found underneath. The stone has early Christian markings and one broad face of the stone bears a pecked six-line inscription in Latin, set vertically in such a way that it reads from top to bottom of the stone. In Latin, it reads:

The stone was carried away to Bowhill after its discovery, but later returned to the place where it had lain for centuries, and where it now stands.
