The Carnon River flows through an old mining district of southern Cornwall to enter the Carrick Roads at Feock.
The river rises at Carnhot, just south of the A30, near the mines at Wheal Busy, and flows south-eastwards to Chacewater. Through a steep valley, the Carnon flows south, passing Wheal Prosper, to Twelveheads then southeast to Bissoe.
A mile or so below Bissoe, the railway crosses the river, on the 750-foot long, nine-arched Carnon Viaduct, which spans the whole valley.
At Devoran the Carnon River becomes tidal and opens into the Restronguet Creek, a broad water over two miles long, which opens into the Carrick Roads.
