The '''Diocese of Clogher''' is a diocese of the [[Church of Ireland]] within the [[Province of Armagh]]. It covers a rural area of south-western [[Ulster]] on both sides of the border, taking in most of counties [[Fermanagh]] and [[County Monaghan|Monaghan]] and parts of counties [[County Cavan|Cavan]], [[County Leitrim|Leitrim]] and [[County Donegal|Donegal]].<ref>[http://clogher.anglican.org/ Diocese of Clogher]</ref>

==Overview and history==
The Diocese was formed in 1111 at the Synod of Rathbreasail as the see for the Kingdom of Uí Chremthainn.<ref>[http://www.clogherdiocese.ie/macartan1500/macartan1500-stmacartan.html St Macartan – 1500 years of faith (Diocese of Clogher)]</ref> The See was removed to Louth between 1135 and 1197, possibly to consolidate the power of the Bishop over against smaller bishoprics, before being returned to Clougher. The diocese was reformed, along with the whole of the Church of Ireland, from the reign of King Henry VIII.  In the 19th century, at the time of the Disestablishment of the Church, confiscated by the state. The diocese is rare within the Anglican Communion in having two diocesan cathedrals (another example being the diocese of Argyll and the Isles in the Scottish Episcopal Church, with cathedrals at [[Oban]] and on the isle of [[Great Cumbrae]].<ref>[http://clogher.anglican.org/Cathedrals/ The Diocese of Clogher: Cathedrals]</ref> although the Church of England's recently created [[Diocese of Leeds]] has no fewer than three cathedrals and one 'Pro-Cathedral'.
