Stottesdon is a village and parish in south-east Shropshire, in the Stottesden Hundred, which is named after it. The ancient parish covers a large rural area, and includes the chapelry of Farlow, which forms a detached part of Herefordshire. The civil parish excludes Farlow, but includes the ancient parish of Sidbury. The village is situated near the market towns of Cleobury Mortimer and Bridgnorth.
History
St Mary's Church (the oldest building in Stottesdon) is pre-Norman with parts that may date at AD 450,[2] although the bulk of the church is post-Norman. The churchyard contains the war graves of three British soldiers of World War I.[3]
Facilities
The village has several facilities including Stottesdon Church of England Primary School,[4][5] "The Fighting Cocks" public house,[6][7] the "Shop at the Cock" village shop,[8] The Old Vicarage Activity Centre,[9] a bus service, phone box, recycling facilities and a post box.
