Kenmare River or Kenmare Bay is a long, narrow inlet indenting the rough south-west coast of Ireland, with its north shore on the Iveragh Peninsula of County Kerry and its south shore along the Beara Peninsula, partly in Kerry and partly in County Cork.
At the head of the bay stands Kenmare, where the tidal Roughty River enters the bay.
The traditional Irish name of the bay was Inbhear Scéine, from the old Gaelic Inbhear ('inver') meaning 'Mouth (of)'. The name is recorded in the 11th Century narrative Lebor Gabála Érenn as the arrival point of the mythological Irish ancestor Partholón.
