Newton-by-the-Sea is a village of two hamlets in Northumberland, found about 8 miles northwest of the county town, Alnwick. It is, as its name suggests, on the seacoast, between the larger villages of Embleton and Seahouses.
There are two distinct settlements in the parish:
- High Newton-by-the-Sea (which, despite its name, is about half a mile inland)
- Low Newton-by-the-Sea (which is on the coast), a hamlet owned by the National Trust.[1]
The area is notable for the diversity of birds to be observed.[2] Just to the south is Embleton Bay.
