Summary

An early plan of the principal floor of York House in Pall Mall, London published in 1827. This building was later known as Stafford House and is now known as Lancaster House. This is the first floor (U.S. English second floor) reached via the staircase in the central hall and containing the main reception rooms. The plan of the house altered during the construction period; the top corner drawing room marked 'A' was realised as two separate chambers in slightly different forms as those depicted. In the gallery ('B' on the plan), the three side windows were omitted and the corners treated differently. The adjacent ante-chamber between the gallery and the room marked as C (the 'State Dining Room'), lost its asymmetrical character as seen in this plan. The dimensions of the rooms given do not reflect those of the finished structure. The functions of the rooms have changed since government occupation; the old 'State Dining Room' is now known as 'Music Room', with a room on the ground floor fulfilling the function of a dining room. Various rooms have been renamed to commemorate previous visitors or special features.
