Summary

Description
English: Towards Goodrich Castle The earthwork in the picture I believe is to protect the timber at Walford Sawmills. The valley of the River Wye narrows here and floods on a regular basis. Going across the middle left of the picture you can see the embankment for the old railway that ran between Lydbrook Junction and Ross on Wye, Kerne Bridge station was only a few hundred yards up the line from here. The original line was constructed by the Ross and Monmouth Railway. On the hill in the distance can be seen the ruin of Goodrich Castle.
