Summary

Description

The Guard of TS Admiral Somers, Bermuda Sea Cadet Corps, on Ordnance Island, St. George's, Bermuda (alias The Somers Isles). The statue in the Major Donald Henry Burns Memorial Park, behind the guard, is of Admiral Sir George Somers, founder of Bermuda and namesake of the cadets' Training ship. It was unveiled in 1984 by Princess Margaret as part of the celebrations of the 375th Anniversary of Bermuda's founding. The Guard paraded for the arrival of American sailor Dodge Morgan as he returned to Bermuda, completing the fastest solo westward-circumnavigation of the world (afloat) aboard his boat, the American Promise. Senior officer shown is the late Lt. Commander Edwards, RNR (SCC).
