Summary

Description
English: St Mary the Virgin, Send The stonework of the church is made up of examples of many local rock types. These include flints, sarsens (siliceous boulders which were once strewn across much of Southern England and used for the construction of Stonehenge), Upper and Lower Greensands, blocks of Chalk and ferruginously-cemented gravel blocks especially at the base of the tower. These gravel blocks may well have been extracted from the river terrace upon which the church stands. The roof is made of Horsham Stone found in the Weald.
