Summary

Description
English: Midmar: Recumbent stone circle in the kirkyard The kirkyard at Midmar contains a recumbent stone circle 17.3m in diameter. Recumbent stone circles, a speciality of the NE of Scotland contain a huge recumbent stone with two flankers and several other stones, in this case five. The two flankers, each c2.5m high, flank a massive recumbent which weighs some 20 tons. The present church was built in 1797 when the old church near Midmar was pulled down . The old graveyard continued in use until 1914 when the new one was laid out around the stone circle.
