Description
Français : Marie de Châtillon priant ("Marie de Châtillon praying"). In English history she is known as "Marie de St Pol", she was a member of the Châtillon family. Marie de St Pol, Countess of Pembroke (c.1303–1377) the wife of Aymer de Valence, 2nd Earl of Pembroke (c.1275-1324) and foundress of Pembroke College, Cambridge. Arms of Valence (Barry (of ten) argent and azure, an orle of French martlets gules) impaling St Pol (Châtillon): (Gules, three pales vair a chief or). With arms of St Pol in stained glass in a lozenge-shaped shield appropriate for a female armiger. The arms of St Pol and Valence are also displayed on her mantle.
