Summary

Description
English: Gas Street Basin in Birmingham This was the northern terminus of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal when it was built in the early 1790s. The stop lock (now open) on the left was not built until an Act of Parliament enforcement in 1815. The owners of the Birmingham Canal beyond refused to have a junction to link the canals, and the merchandise had to be physically carried from one boat to another across what became known as the Worcester Bar.
