Upwood is a small and picturesque village in Huntingdonshire. It is found in the fenland near Bury, south-west of Ramsey. Close by and within the parish are the way-side communities of Great and Little Raveley, each a small group of cottages.

Upwood has grown residentially with Air Force accommodation which has now been made available for civilian occupation at Farm Close and Fairmead. The school makes a contribution to the village scene with metallic sculptures in its grounds.

The church, St Peter's, dates back to Norman times and its internal features include a Jacobean font cover and glorious Glasby mosaic First World War frieze in the Lady Chapel.

Opposite the church is Upwood House, seat of the manor. The manor was given to Aylwin in around 992 by King Edgar, a grant including the fisheries and eeleries thereof. Aylwin became the founder of Ramsey Abbey.

In September 1917, the Royal Flying Corps started work on an airfield near the village, which was to become RAF Upwood, and which became in later years a massive air force base used by both the RAF and the United States Air Force.

Two nature reserves, Lady's Wood and Upwood Meadows, lie near to the village; the latter is a National Nature Reserve.[1]
