Three Holes is a hamlet which stands on the border of Norfolk with Cambridgeshire, south of Upwell. Like Upwell and Outwell beyond it, Three Holes is dived between the two counties ablong the village road, Croft Road also called Dovecote Road in the village.
Three Holes is strung along what was the main road north to King's Lynn, the A1101 here, though this main route goes past Three Holes through Norfolk to Upwell while the village follows the old road along the county boundary, which appears to be the old course of the local river – in the Great Fen though rivers of old did not all flow in one direction, and today the waters of the River Nene Old Course, the waters are borne by the canalised Middle Level Main Drain and Pophams Eau.
