Galway

Galway is a port city and the county town of County Galway, a vast county which takes its name from the city.

Galway, reckoned the fourth most populous city in the Irish Republic, stands on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay. It is the gateway to Connemara and the Gaeltacht, out to which the N59 road leaves the town to wander along the western shore of Lough Corrib and the R337 along the northern shore of Galway Bay, both soon lost in Galway's rural and highly scenic hinterland.
