FindochtyFindochty is a village in Banffshire four miles east of Buckie. It stands on the shores of the Moray Firth and with its painted cottages, a scenic harbour overlooked at the west by the local war memorial, and at the east by the white painted Church of Scotland, Findochty is a jewel of the Firth. The town was created by the Ord flamily, who bought the manor, port, custom and fishers' lands of Findochty in 1568. In 1716 the Ords brought fishermen from Fraserburgh to develop fishing here, and by 1850 was home port to 140 fishing boats. Findochty harbour is now used mostly by pleasure craft and is a good sun spot when the tide is out. (Read more) |
