Dublin

Dublin is the county town of County Dublin and the capital city of the Republic of Ireland. It stands on the River Liffey as that river enters the sea near the midpoint of Ireland's east coast.

This is the biggest city in the Republic, its commercial, cultural, intellectual and political centre and a major port. It has served as the capital of Ireland since the days of King Henry II, and before then as the heart of the Norse Kingdom of Dublin, leaving the city with a vast historical heritage.

Traditionally, a north versus south division has existed in Dublin with the dividing line provided by the River Liffey. The Northside is generally seen as working-class, while the Southside is seen as middle and upper middle class. The historical heart of the city is on the southside. (Read more)
