Stratfield Turgis is a small village in the north-east of Hampshire.

The suffix in the name of the village derives from the Turgis family, who held the manor of the de Ports and St. Johns from as early as 1270. The first element is the Old English stræt feld. Meamning 'street-field'; the street being the Roman road from Silchester to London.

The parish church, All Saints, stands in the village. It is of the 13th century.

Stratfield Turgis is on the main A33 road between Reading and Basingstoke. As well as Stratfield Turgis itself, the parish includes the hamlets of Spanish Green and Turgis Green, together with surrounding outlying farms.

Sport and leisure

  • Cricket: Stratfield Turgis & Hartley Wespall Cricket Club, who play at Turgis Green.
