Six Mile Bottom is a hamlet in Cambridgeshire on the crossroads between the A1304 Newmarket Road and the road from Little Wilbraham and Brinkley. It lies six miles southwest of one end of the racecourse in Newmarket hence its origin and its name; this was the finishing point for six-mile races.
Six Mile Bottom is part of the parish of Little Wilbraham. Its church, St George's, was built in 1933 and consecrated on 17 December in that year. It is built in brick and flint, in an Italianate style and contains unusual timber carved "barley-sugar" columns at the rear of the nave. St George's was paid for by the Hall family.[1]
Six Mile Bottom also has a pub, a hotel and The Hall, and a Sports and Social Club.
