Scotter is a large village in Lindsey, the northern part of Lincolnshire. It is found in the open countryside that has as yet escaped the urbanisation to the north, three miles east of the tidal River Trent (across which is the Isle of Axholme), four and a half miles south of Scunthorpe.
The civil parish contains the hamlet of Susworth, on the east bank of the River Trent, and that of Scotterthorpe, northeast of Scotter village: the population of this parish was recorded as 2,591 in the 2001, increasing to 3,065 at the 2011 census.
The parish church, St Peter, is in the Scotter with East Ferry parish, in the 'Scotton and Scotter Group' of parishes, in the Diocese of Lincoln. Other churches in the group are Scotton and Northorpe.
The village has several shops, a village hall, a community centre, and a primary school. The village hall was opened on 12 July 1985 by the Duchess of Gloucester.
The A159 road between Gainsborough and Scunthorpe crosses the River Eau (a tributary of the Trent) in the village.
