Rescobie Kirk

Rescobie is a parish in central Angus. It contains the Carse Gray estate and Roscobie Loch. It extends about nine miles from south-east to north-west, with a varying breadth of from 1½ mile to 2½ miles. Clockwise from the north, it is bounded by the parishes of Oathlaw, Aberlemno, Guthrie, Kirkden, Dunnichen, Forfar, and Kirriemuir. The A932 road from Forfar to Friockheim passes through the south of the parish.

On Turin Hill, which wears an impregnable aspect, formerly stood a stone fort. Traces of the walls, from 13 to 14 feet in thickness, are still remaining, and are now known under the name of Kemp or Camp Castle.

Roscobie Loch extends about 1¼ mile in length, with an extreme breadth of nearly a mile, occupying that part of the parish which lies betwixt the hills of Turin and Dunnichen. The Lunan Water flows through this loch and into Balgavies Loch in the neighbouring parish of Aberlemno..
