Reform Tower, also known as Earl Grey Tower, is a gritstone tower standing on Stanton Moor in the Peak District of Derbyshire. It is located to the west of Stanton Lees and to the south of Stanton in Peak, overlooking the Nine Ladies Stone Circle.[1]
The tower is a Grade II listed building.[2] The tower
History
The Tower was constructed in 1832 for William Pole Thornhill of Stanton Hall. A plaque was formerly located near the doorway which read ‘Earl Grey 1832’. [3]
The tower was built to commemorate the passing of the Reform Act 1832; an effort led by the Whigs under Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey.[4]
