Rede is a village in Suffolk. It is in the southwest of the county, about five miles south-west of Bury St Edmunds, in 2005 its population was counted at 160.

The village has a neat church, All Saints, which is a lovely Norman church with carved poppy heads on some of the pews.

Great Wood

Path from Great Wood to Rede

The Great Wood lies west of Rede, where a footpath from the village and a bridleway from Pykards Hall converge, at Elm's Farm and Gatesbury's Farm. The Great Wood is now split into three small woodlands (each smaller than Francis Wood a little to the north). Great Wood is the highest point in the Newmarket Ridge, stretching from Bury St Edmunds to Bishop's Stortford in Hertfordshire.

The chief significance of the Great Wood is that at 420 feet it is the highest point in Suffolk; the county top, located at TL786558. The exact top is a matter of conjecture as the area is flat.
