Newbiggin is a village in County Durham adjacent to the River Tees which forms the border with Yorkshire. The population of the village at the 2011 census was 146.[1] It is situated on the north side of Teesdale, opposite Holwick in the North Riding of Yorkshire. There was an influx of Derbyshire lead miners into the area in the late 18th century, and they may have brought the name from the Biggin in the Peak District.
