The Lox Yeo is a short river in the north of Somerset. It rises at Winscombe and flows south west for about four miles to join the River Axe near Loxton.
The river flows through a gap in the Mendip Hills between Crook Peak and Bleadon Hill, a gap through which the M5 motorway has also been driven.
The river was once known simply as the Lox. The name appears to be of Celtic origin, and means either "winding stream"[1] or "bright one".[2] The name 'Yeo' is a common name for rivers in Somerset and Devon, from the Old English Ea meaning just 'river'.
