Kelton

Kelton is a parish in Kirkcudbrightshire situated 10 miles north-east of the county town, Kirkcudbright. It includes the villages of Rhonehouse and Gelston and the majority of the town of Castle Douglas, the town having spread into neighbouring Crossmichael to the north.
This parish derives its name, of Celtic origin, from the extensive woods formerly in its vicinity. It is bounded on the west by the River Dee which separates it from Balmaghie and Tongland. To the south lie the parishes of Kirkcudbright and Rerrick with Buittle to the east.
