Information

Gatehampton Railway Bridge is a railway bridge carrying the Great Western Main Line over the River Thames betweeen Lower Basildon, Berkshire and Gatehampton Farm, Oxfordshire. It takes the line between the stations at Goring and Streatley and Pangbourne, and crosses the Thames on the reach between Whitchurch Lock and Goring Lock.

Despite being named after Gatehampton Farm on the Oxfordshire bank, the majority of the bridge lies in Berkshire as the county border follows the northern bank here.

History

The brick bridge was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1838, at the same time as Maidenhead Railway Bridge and Moulsford Railway Bridge.
