Tower Bridge machinery

One of a pair of identical horizontal stationary steam engines built by Sir W. G. Armstrong Mitchell & Company of Gateshead in 1894. Used to pump water at 750psi to the hydraulic machinery that worked the bascules of Tower Bridge.

It is a twin tandem compound engine, fitted with Meyer expansion slide valves, driving force pumps by the tail rods.
