Discoed or Discoyd is a township of the ancient parish of Presteigne in Radnorshire. Additionally it forms part of the civil community of Whitton. The name is from the Old English 'dic' and 'cot', meaning a cottage by Offa's Dyke.
The Manor of Discoed has a long history. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book, but is considerably older than that. For such a tiny hamlet it contains several fine buildings, including the Grade-II* listed Upper House, a Tudor manor house and the adjacent mediæval St Michael's church.
The Church of England church of St Michael's, the sister Church of St Andrew's Presteigne, is a modest "shepherd's" church with Victorian modifications. Extensive repairs and reordering were carried out in 2008 & 2009. The site is notable for its wonderful location and views, and spectacular yew tree, said to be five thousand years old and probably one of the five oldest in the British Isles. The church falls under the Diocese of Hereford.
