Cowpen (ˈku:pən) is a village of Northumberland, which has become a western extension of the town of Blyth in the east of the county. Cowpen is found just east of the A189 road.
In the 12th century, the village's name was Cupum, possibly the dative plural of Old Norse kupa, "a cuplike depression or valley".[1]
