Castle Hume Hall stood close to the north-west of Enniskillen in Fermanagh, close to the shores of Lower Lough Erne, from the early eighteenth century. It has now all but disappeared: the stable block still stands but the house has gone. The name is remembered in surrounding area and the local golf club.
The house also gives a name to Castlehume Lough, a small, freshwater lough by which the house stood and which feeds into Lower Lough Erne.
The house was built for Sir Gustavus Hume[1] by Richard Cassells (or Castle), an architect of obscure origin, possibly born in Dresden. Sir Gustavus brought Casslls to Ireland, where he is responsible for several notable Palladian houses.
