Brundon is a hamlet in Essex that together with Ballingdon forms the ancient parish of Ballingdon-cum-Brundon in the Hinckford Hundred of the county. It is located on the River Stour, which forms the parish boundary and county border with Suffolk, near the town of Sudbury.
History
The name of this place is derived from the Saxon words which signify brown hill. At the time of the Conquest Brundon appears to have been a distinct parish while Ballingdon is unnoticed - a circumstance which has led to the supposition that Ballingdon was a part of the manor of Brundon with which originally it had probably little ecclesiastical connection.
Brundon Hall is a Grade-II* listed 18th-century building which stands near the former Brundon water mill.[1]
