Bontnewydd is a small village in Caernarfonshire. The name Y Bontnewyd means "The New Bridge".
It is a modest village with a population of 1,165 at the 2001 census, and stands on the A487 road two miles south of the county town, Caernarfon. It stands where the road crosses the River Gwyrfai, a mile and a half from its outflow into Foryd Bay, and this bridge gives the town its name.
The village is served by Bontnewydd railway station, an unstaffed halt on the Welsh Highland Railway. The village has two small supermarkets, an outdoor attraction called Gypsy Wood Park, a pub called The Newborough Arms and one school.
Bontnewydd was known as Bodallog before the bridge was built over the Gwyrfai.
