Beacon Hill in southern Dorset is one of the highest viewpoints in the ridge of high land behind Poole Harbour. The earlier name for the hill was Lytchett Beacon. It is also a small village clustered on the hill.
Historically the hill was one of a series of hills across Britain where a beacon stood, used to communicate warnings, most famously the warning lit across the kingdom in 1588 of the advancing Spanish Armada.
