Argoed is a village and parish in western Monmouthshire. It is located in the Sirhowy Valley between Blackwood and Tredegar. The parish also contains the villages of Markham and Hollybush.
Years ago the area was served by a railway station, which has since been closed down. This was the Sirhowy Valley Tramway, run by the London and North Western train company, which went from Tredegar to join with the Ebbw Valley Line at Crosskeys. The railway, however, has been transformed into a cycle path, which runs from Blackwood to just north of Hollybush.
The name "Argoed" comes from the Welsh language for by a wood or by a grove.
Zephaniah Williams, prosecuted for his part in the Chartist Newport Rising in 1839, was born in the village in 1795.
