Darbel Bay

Darbel Bay indents the coast of the Loubet Coast of Graham Land in the British Antarctic Territory. On this coast it lies between Cape Bellue and Cape Rey.

The bay was roughly charted by the French Antarctic Expedition of 1908-1910 led by Charcot, and was included with Matha Strait and Crystal Sound under the name Baie Matha; later named Baie Marin Darbel after Captain Laurent-Victor Marin-Darbel (b.1849), of the French Navy.

Following air reconnaissance on 20 December 1928, Wilkins erroneously showed the bay as the western part of a channel cutting through Graham Land, and called it 'Marin Darbel Fjord'. The feature was further charted as a bay by Discovery Investigations in 1931, receiving the definitive name 'Darbel Bay' following a sketch survey by the British Graham Land Expedition in 1943.

The bay was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition in 1957.
