Downe is a village and ancient parish in north-western Kent, 3½ miles south-west of Orpington. It is close to but outside the Greater London conurbation, located on a hill surrounded by open countryside. Downe is home to Buckston Browne Farm, a former surgical research centre, and Down House, home to Charles Darwin for the last forty years of his life. The parish is also home to the West Kent Golf Club, adjacent to Biggin Hill Airport.
